A tamer example of a meme that’s been both widely popular and widely criticized. According to the user who first posted the image on Reddit, the woman depicted was a student working in medical clinics in Uganda this summer. For more context on the photo, read this Reddit thread. And about what’s going on in the photo itself:

She was trying to get him to take a photo with him. English is the national language of Uganda but a lot of people in Northern Uganda only speak Acholi. The kid wouldn’t be convinced to smile. She was speaking to him in English but he was not replying. Of course his parents okayed us taking a photo with him first. When the kid made that face in response to her smile pleas, it was too priceless not to snap the photo.
