I was mulling over this as I drove to work today….
I may have heard so many great jazz singers that it makes it hard for me to appreciate a voice like JHud’s, Beyonce’s or Alicia Keys. I think it’s all that belting and screaming vs. really using skill to manipulate the music like say, Ella F. or Sarah V. or Whitney. If you pay attention, none of those women ever screamed. They didn’t need to. Something to think about, that’s for sure.

Sarah Vaughan is one of my favorites. No one gives me chills like she can. I agree..there is a lot more feeling conveyed when there is less “belting out”. i appreciate the others have great voices but they don’t do it for me like the oldies.
